Chapter 1 Introduction RADview-HPOV/ATM User’s Manual
1-2 RADview-HPOV for ATM Applications – Overview
Basic Features
RADview-HPOV provides a flexible, reliable environment for planning and
preparing network configurations for ATM agents, while complying with standard
management protocols for monitoring, control and diagnostics.
Using RADview-HPOV, you can define nets, plan the required connections
between ATM agents within a given net, and configure the nets to adapt their
performance to current conditions. You can create map-hierarchies by defining the
related agents and the communication between them. The map (hierarchy) name
is also the net name.
RADview-HPOV maintains its own database to support sanity check algorithms
and enforce integrity among the network components. The reliability of the
integrity depends partially upon the accuracy of the configuration information that
you provide.
RADview-HPOV provides monitoring and control functions that extend from the
network down to the level of the individual ports, physical and ATM layers and per
VP/VC analysis. These functions include the preparation of network configurations,
the preparation of a set of conditions to alter the configurations as needed, the
initiation of tests and the monitoring of agent performance.
Alarms Monitoring
Upon request, you may dynamically display a list of generated alarms at the
management station. The system polls the agents for active alarm status (existence
of state or event alarms). You can display active alarms for three different levels:
TDM agent, card, and port.
Colors indicate if TDM agents, cards, and ports have active alarms.
Test Monitoring
Upon user request, the management station enforces testing on various objects.
The agents are polled for current test status.
Colors indicate test status at the card or port level.
Viewing Active Events
The RADview-HPOV screen includes an Event Window, from which you can
choose to display trap and event messages that arrive from active network
elements. It contains a choice of six types of event lists.
On-Line Help Support
Each window includes the Help menu option which allows you to access help
related to the current screen. The Help is written according to HP OpenView
Windows Online Help system guidelines.
